Rhum Babs was founded by Gaele, who spent the first 10 years of her life in Madagascar. Her initial project, which is still relevant today, was to put her country of origin in the spotlight in order to pay tribute to it, even though she now lives in Belgium. For the production of her rum, she uses only high quality raw materials that she selects herself. The production process starts with the fermentation of sugar cane molasses or pure sugar cane juice, depending on the type of rum she produces. They then use traditional copper stills to distil their rum, before ageing it in carefully selected oak barrels to give each rum its unique character.
Their range of rums includes several varieties, from unaged white agricultural rum to aged rum aged for several years in oak barrels. The rums they produce have distinct flavour profiles, ranging from fruity and floral notes to vanilla and caramel aromas. Rum Babs is also committed to sustainable practices, using green energy in its production process. The company also strives to minimise its environmental impact. Indeed, respect for the environment is one of the most important things to Gaele.
One of the special features of Rhum babs is that a percentage of every bottle sold goes directly to education projects in Madagascar. This is one of the things that Gaele feels particularly strongly about, given the difficulty of access to education in this rather poor country.
