Het Anker is a Belgian craft distillery located in Mechelen, Flanders. Founded in 1637 by the Van Breedam family, it is one of the oldest breweries and distilleries in Belgium. Since 1990, Het Anker has been producing whisky.
The whisky produced by the distillery is made from a mixture of barley and wheat malt, which is brewed and distilled in copper stills. The whisky is aged in first fill bourbon casks followed by a successive period in 'Anker' casks (oak barrels reworked by a cooper to their own specifications).
The distillery is also famous for its restaurant and brewery, which offer a selection of craft beers, as well as traditional Belgian dishes prepared with local and seasonal ingredients.
Het Anker also organises guided tours of its workshop and production facilities, where visitors can learn more about the history of the distillery and the artisanal production methods used to make their spirits.
